He was called “Messi” (like many kids in the Bamako and Africa districts) in 2009 when from the top of his three apples, without really knowing what he was talking about, he was involved in the detection of Promotion 2 of the JMG Bamako Academy. It was as part of a team set up by a “big brother” from the neighbourhood, himself a good player but who did not have the same chance in his time, had decided to involve some talented young people he had identified, in the recruitment tournament of the JMG Mali Academy. The group formed has some individual talents, but lacks cohesion, the kids knowing each other too little and everyone is doing a little too much to be noticed. Some elements of this group, including Kané, will however be selected according to the principle of detection, in order to constitute a selection of good players who have had their respective teams eliminated. And thus have a chance to be recruited at the end of the detection.
Rather shy and certainly not aware of the stakes of these matches that he will deliver until the end of the tournament, Kané will even be absent from the final stage when he had been selected for the occasion ! The search for him before and after the final internship will be in vain for several months. Indeed, no reliable contact had been made by him, although the group formed for the occasion had broken up at the end of the first phase.
Until an afternoon in September, almost 3 months after the end of the detection. Indeed, on that day, Cheick Keita, former professional Malian footballer and friend of the JMG coach will come with the same kid, whom he had spotted in the neighbourhoods, to introduce him to the JMG Coach so that he can participate in training with the first core of the Promotion 2 entry and made up of players with whom he had participated in the detection. Fate thus put him back on the path he would follow. Indeed, it will only take this one afternoon training for the JMG coach to ask that his family be notified and that the kid join the other kids in Promotion 2 ! It is in the position of left-back that Kané will reveal himself during his training and with the Malian U17 national team in 2016 and 2017! Having finally left for Ukraine, knowing that he could have started his career in a country more familiar with welcoming young Malian footballers at the beginning of their professional careers, Kané settled in Vorskla Poltava for his first steps… Aware of the climatic challenges and difficulties to be overcome in order to succeed in charting a course. But he undoubtedly has the qualities to impose himself and reach higher levels in a few years’ time.
