The children of the Djekanou Academy had a nice surprise on 2 June 2021. At 4pm the most successful academician, Yaya Touré, arrived.
Yaya had contacted Diabis, his older brother from the Academy who is now the coach of the youngsters at Djekanou, to ask him if he could come by, see the kids and play with them.
Diabis kept it a secret. And at 4pm, when the kids came out of their nap, they saw the big Yaya appear, they all wondered if it was a dream or if it was really him, present and ready to exchange balls with them.
With their eyes full of stars, the training started, with the promotion 1 a Kiperkit, 5 against 5 with close goals, Yaya was joker in the game.
It was a rewarding day for our academics.
This is the Academy, a family, the big ones come to meet the little ones. Let’s hope that we never lose this spirit, that we never forget the maxim written on the wall of the Johan refectory of the first academy in Abidjan: “You will be great if you know how to stay small”.
