FC St. Gallen 1879 has registered a new arrival for the 2022/23 season. Daouda Guindo joins head coach Peter Zeidler’s team from FC Red Bull Salzburg.
The defender, who mainly plays on the left side in Salzburg, but can also play in the centre of defence, is on loan for one year.
The 19-year-old Malian started his career in his native country with Guidars FC and trained at the JMG academy in Bamako, before joining Salzburg in January 2021. For the first six months, Guindo played for cooperative club FC Liefering, before making the jump to Red Bull Salzburg’s first team in the summer of 2021. Last season, the defender made eleven appearances for the club, including one in the Champions League. This month, Guindo also received his first call-up to the Mali senior national team. Daouda Guindo will wear the number 19 shirt at FC St. Gallen 1879.
Alain Sutter, the club’s sporting director, said of him :
“Daouda Guindo is a very talented young player who fits our profile perfectly. He has already shown his qualities in Salzburg and will be an ideal addition to our defence.”
