Double goalscorer and passer: a week after a big match in the final of the Belgian Cup, Theo Bongonda was the strongman of Racing Genk on the lawn of the Antwerp, for a rematch that the Limburgers relish.
Because Genk was beaten 3-2 at Bosuil just two weeks ago. “We showed a reaction after this defeat and we are happy to have been able to win this match, especially after a final,” confirms Theo Bongonda, who wore the captain’s armband on Friday night.
Five days after winning the Cup, the Limburgers show that they will also have to rely on them in the playoffs. “We learned from the mistakes we made last time and I think this victory is deserved. It’s no coincidence that we win this game. Antwerp is one of the most boring teams to play and if you manage to win here, you are a good team.”
A victory all the more tasty for the Limburgers as they were led 25 minutes from the end. “Even in trouble we kept pushing, we wanted to show and we showed that we were better than them, it shows that we have matured,” concludes Theo Bongonda who, from the top of his assist and his two goals, showed the way to his teammates.
