Joeri Poelmans will leave Helmond Sport. The club did not extend his contract expiring on June 30, 2020. However, the 24-year-old Belgian has played more than 26 games in the 2019-2020 season (shortened due to coronavirus) and 36 games in the 2018-2019 season.
In the Netherlands, clubs must indicate by 1 April whether an expiring contract should be renewed. This did not happen with Senne Vits, Nick de Louw, Dean Koolhof and Joeri Poelmans. For other players, depending on their contract status, June 1 is the deadline.
Helmond Sport has had a difficult season, with a final place in the second division. “Because of the coronavirus, it’s not very clear yet, which is one of the reasons why we didn’t inform the options. Also, you can’t separate it from the sport,” said Leon Vlemmings the sporting director.
