A few months after his arrival, the young winger on loan from Racing Genk began to make his mark in Mouscron.
Manuel Benson will undoubtedly have a touch of regret at the start of the clash of extremes between Mouscron and Racing Genk at 8pm this Sunday. For contractual reasons, the young Mouscronnois winger is deprived of the match against the club to which he belongs.
And it’s a very bad time for a player who’s been clearly gaining in power in recent weeks. Far from being an indisputable starter since his arrival, Benson seduces when he has the opportunity. The proof: he was a starter in the last two Mouscron matches, a happiness he had not known in the league since the trip to Charleroi on 1 September.
And if, like his whole team, he did not shine at the Cercle de Bruges, he had been the best man on the pitch against the Ghent woman in the second half. When Manuel Benson shines on his side, it is all Mouscron who benefits. “I absolutely want to show myself, I don’t often start, but when I have the chance to be, I have to make a difference,” he told us after the match.
That day, he had taken his chance and Bernd Storck made no secret of the fact that he had been impressed by his foal’s performance. “He is able to play with others and this is an important quality for the team,” insisted the German coach.
His vivacity, technique and foresight are assets that Mouscron will indeed need to ensure his place among the elite. The little pocket winger still has to multiply his performances like the Ghent striker’s, and win in regularity, because his stats (two Cup goals and one league assist since his arrival in Mouscron) are not yet equal to his talent and potential.
